![]() ![]() That’s how I came up with the idea of arranging an Easy Piano Classics Books series, and Moonlight Sonata will be the first in the book. ![]() Many of my Intermediate piano students expressed that they would love to be able to play Moonlight Sonata but thought it would be very hard to do. Since then, Moonlight Sonata has remained the “official” unofficial title of the sonata. In 1836, German music critic Ludwig Rellstab wrote that the sonata reminded him of the reflected moonlight off Lake Lucerne. It was admired particularly for its mysterious, gently arpeggiated, and seemingly improvised first movement that received the title of Moonlight Sonata several years after Beethoven’s death. 14 in C♯ minor, “Quasi Una Fantasia,” Op. ![]() It was composed by Beethoven in 1801 in Hungary and was dedicated to Beethoven’s piano student and passion, 17 years old Countess Giulietta Gucciardi. The Moonlight Sonata is one of the most popular and most-played piano sonatas from Beethoven’s creation. ![]()
